Project Updates for 9/26/2010
[img boards_mounted1.jpg||left]I went ahead and mounted both the Arduino and the new board I made onto the robot and created several wiring harnesses. I have 2 hooked up that go from the receiver to the PIC board and have another one going from the PIC board to the arduino for communication. After doing all that work, I finally tested it and it worked great on the first try. Today's work will be finishing up the rest of the wires going from the receiver to the PIC board and doing some work on mounting the USB/Switch board. This will include shortening a really long cable (the yellow one in the pictures) that I'm using which I pulled out of a computer monitor.
I've also been working on designing the connector board that will mount on top of the Arduino. It has a place for the SPI wiring harness to be soldered on and a place for an MMC card for the future to go. In the current design, I have 3 pin connectors with (Ground, V+, Signal) next to all remaining digital and analog inputs and outputs. I also added headers next to the remaining unused pins in case I decide to make use of those in some design. The purpose of the board will be to give a place for all existing and future connections to plug in neatly while still allowing for expansion of the robot. I'm going to wait a little before making this board in case I have any last minute design change ideas.
While I was going through my parts a couple days ago, I found 2 more IR TSOP1738s which would allow me to probably build a total of 4 IR sensors of standard design with what I have on hand. I also found an additional IR LED that I had bought. After I'm done with wiring and mounting completed items, my plan is to go back to the IR sensor and finish up the design with which I'll make 4 circuit boards for the IR sensors.
