Project Updates for 5/31/2009

Well, not much progress today for the most part. The 2 are communicating, but the results don't seem to be what I keep expecting. This morning, I originally thought one of the chips I had was bad, but it seems they got a little messed up when I tried writing to them without power plugged into my programmer. Doing an erase, a full read, and then a write (with power) seemed to fix it and once I figured that out, I haven't had any problems. This would be so much easier with a logic analyzer, but I don't have one, and I don't have the money to buy any parts to make one (at least not based on the designs I found on the internet). I could probably build one with what I have, but I think it would require a large amount of time spent on that and I'd rather not be side-tracked. I think I ended up spending a large portion of the day trying to get it working while using a reserved address, so I'm having to do a lot of testing all over again. I think overall, I just have a lot to learn about the I2C protocol. I think it will just be a matter of plugging away at this project until I figure out enough things to finally get it working. Fortunately, I tend to be more inventive with figuring out software, than I do hardware and finding bugs is one of my specialties; learning new things like this protocol is one of my other.
