Project Updates for 10/5/2010

[img icd2_clone.jpg||left]I finally got the ICD working yesterday. I ended up attempting to see what the test pin was on the FT232BL and in the process of moving around parts, it suddenly started working. I'm not quite sure of what was wrong, but it was probably a part that had a short in it and wasn't making a connection even though it was plugged in correctly. Anyhow, after I did that it was recognized correctly as a device on the computer. I went ahead and downloaded the firmware into the device, but it wasn't passing the self tests. After careful examination, I found a resistor plugged into the wrong spot and fixed that and it passed the self test after that. I also had a problem with it telling me it wasn't detecting the correct device. I just needed to select the correct part in MPLAB and that was fixed. When attempting to program the connected chip, it wasn't being successful in programming that chip, so I decided the voltage for the MCLR pin was a little too low and replaced my LM324 (quad op amp) with a MC1458 (dual op amp) and it had gone up another volt. Apparently that was enough because it was successful after that. So now that I have a working model of an ICD, I'm attempting to get the board I made working. I'm double-checking all USB chip connections and everything is coming up good so far, but I'm starting to suspect the chip may be bad. So if I can't find anything after a thorough test, the next step will be to swap the chips and use the good chip on the circuit board and test the bad chip out in the working circuit. So that's my plans with that for today.
